DAVID H. MARONEY

At the age of 96, David Henry Maroney passed away peacefully on December 13th, 2025 with his daughters by his side. He was the son of the late Anne Marvel Maroney and the late John Herbert Maroney.

Mr. Maroney was preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, Mary Campbell Maroney, and his brother, Phillip Marvel Maroney. He is survived by his daughters, Marianne M. Cognetti (Peter) of Waverly, Pennsylvania and Nancy M. Miller (Eric) of St. Helena Island, South Carolina; seven grandchildren, Sarah (Marc), Caroline (Adam), David (Katie), Peter (Katherine), Matthew (Mimi), Anne (Luke), and William (Molly); and twelve great-grandchildren.

David was born in Philadelphia in 1929, but spent most of his life on the Mainline. He was captain of the 1946 Lower Merion High School football team, co-captain of the wrestling team, and was also a member of the school's first lacrosse team. Graduating from Cornell in 1951 during the time of the Korean War, he entered the United States Army and served as first lieutenant with the U.S. Occupation Forces in Germany.

Following his release from the military, David worked for several years in the fire insurance industry before embarking on a long career in the wholesale lumber business, working largely in account management along the eastern seaboard. After 30 years with the Furman Lumber Company, he retired as vice president in 1995. In 2000, he came out of retirement to join the corporate consulting firm In-Person Communications, where he served as vice president of client services and senior videographer until he retired again in 2006.

Throughout his lifetime, David retained a lively interest in sports as both a spectator and participant. After his army service, he played for the Philadelphia Lacrosse Club for five years. He was an ardent fan of Philadelphia professional teams, especially the Phillies. As a player, he was active in tennis, squash, and platform tennis, playing interclub competition in all three sports for the Merion Cricket Club. He was also a member of the Martin's Dam Club, where he participated in interclub tennis for many years.

David was a former member of the Pennsylvania Scotch Irish Society, the Geographical Society of Philadelphia, and the Military Order of the Foreign Wars – PA Commandery, in addition to being an active volunteer in the Radnor community.

Among the many roles he held throughout his life, one of the most meaningful was that of "Pop Pop" to his seven grandchildren, who loved and admired him deeply. He took great pleasure in spending time with his family and had a profound and enduring influence on all of their lives.
