David W. Sleboda, 61, of Scott Twp., died Saturday morning at the Carbondale Nursing Home after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Dunmore, son of the late Albert Francis and Madeline Tur Sleboda, he was educated in Dunmore schools and was a dedicated employee who served as a manager at Schiff's Food Service for more than 22 years.
David enjoyed nothing more than spending time with his daughter, she was the light of his life. As his illness worsened his daughter served as his caregiver. David was an avid sportsman enjoying hunting, but especially fishing in the local lakes and ponds. He was a master handyman always willing to help others with building projects. He also enjoyed John Wayne westerns and his pet cat, Blackie. David had a vast knowledge of all things in nature and woodworking.
He is survived by a daughter, Tanya Sleboda and fiancé, Gregg Townend, Mayfield; a sister, Deborah Sleboda, Dunmore; two nephews, Brian Sleboda and fiancée, Sarah; and Bobby Sleboda and wife, Sonia; two nieces, Bridget Sleboda Meyers and Erin Sleboda; several great-nephews and cousins.
He was also preceded in death by a brother, Albert Sleboda.
The funeral will be Tuesday with a blessing service at 7 p.m. in the Morell-LaBelle Funeral Home, 301 Chestnut St., Dunmore. Friends and family are invited to call Tuesday from 4 p.m. until time of service at the funeral home.
