Dolores L.
Luongo
July 10, 2022
Dee Dee Luongo, our beloved Mom, passed away peacefully at the age of 89 on Sunday. She was the wife of her husband Patrick who died in April 2020. They were married for 61 years and the light of each other's lives.
Born in Dunmore to Italian immigrant parents Salvatore and Josephine Messina Lombardo on March 11, 1933, she was a graduate of Dunmore High School Class of 1952 and attended Madam Fenwick School of Cosmetology, Comptometer School and the University of Scranton later in life. She worked for A&P and practiced as a beautician before starting Dee Dee's Dress Shop, a well-known women's retail store in Dunmore. Before retirement, she worked in the Men's Shop at Suburban Casuals for many years where she loved her colleagues and clients. She was a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church and devoted much of her time to volunteering and forming many prayer groups.
She was a loving mother, wife, sister, aunt, grandmother and friend who shared her love with everyone and had the warmest smile. She loved to cook and have company over in her happy home. If you came to visit, you left with a full stomach. She thrived in life and lived through her faith, strength, compassion and her smile. She was a friend to all, always looked at the bright side of things, and never faltered, even during difficult times. She was our rock and was always available for her family and friends. She loved playing cards and going on her shopping trips with her family and friends to NYC. She was a truly special person who taught us generosity, life-lasting traditions and to be kind to others.
In addition to her husband Patrick, she was also preceded in death by her parents, her sister Rose Scrimalli and brother Joseph Lombardo. She leaves behind her sons Salvatore and wife Madelein, Tampa, FL and Pat and wife Nicole, Hoboken, NJ as well as the apples of her eye, her seven grandchildren, Salvatore Jr., Alyssa Marie, Lenis, Elios, Patrick III, Zachary and Beckham who she loved a bushel and a peck. She is also survived by her sister Grace Seashock and sister, best friend, nurse and caretaker, Angela Rinaldi whom we are forever grateful as well as many nieces, nephews and special friends each of whom she had a special relationship with.
The family would like to thank Sr. Kieran, the administration, nurses and staff of Marywood Heights for their love, care, support and FaceTime calls with mom over the past 18 months.
Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday July 19 at 10am at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, Dunmore. Interment to follow at Dunmore Cemetery.
A viewing will be held on Monday July 18 from 5-8pm at The Morell-LaBelle Funeral Home, 301 Chestnut St. Dunmore, PA.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Marywood Heights or Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, Dunmore, PA.
