Florence Straz dies at 106

Florence Straz, 106, of Dunmore, passed away peacefully Sunday, Jan. 17, at St. Mary's Villa, Elmhurst. She was the wife of the late Stanley Straz.
She was the daughter of the late Angelo and Carmella (Caputo ) Valvano. She attended Longfellow School in Dunmore. She was a member of SS. Anthony and Rocco Parish. Before her retirement, she was employed as a seamstress in the local garment industry. Florence was a talented seamstress who enjoyed arts and crafts, cooking and baking.
She is survived by nieces, Mrs. Delores Pennell; Kim Aaron, who had a special bond with Florence; Kim's daughter, Mrs. Brielle D'Angelo; Lynn Pennell, Britt Pennell; Mr. and Mrs. Rocco and Josephine Furello, children, Rocco, Richie and Jill, and their grandchildren, Maura, Maggie, Shannon, Jillian and Virginia, who went above and beyond to help Florence and were always there for her; friend, Gert Bolick, who was always there to help her also; Florence's caregivers, especially Chrissy, St. Mary's Villa who were so kind to her while she was there as a guest, especially, Barbara, one of her nurses, Emily who was her caregiver was especially kind to Florence, and finally Dr. Samuel Valent who had great compassion and empathy for Florence.
In lieu of flowers, if anyone wishes they can send a donation to St. Joseph's Center, Scranton, PA.
She was also preceded in death by brothers, Guy, Angelo, Nick, Rocco and infant brother, Anthony; sisters, Margaret and infant, Marie; and niece, Lisa Pennell.
In adherence to CDC guidelines, please wear face coverings and practice social distancing. A graveside service will be held this morning at 11 a.m. in Dunmore cemetery. Those attending are asked to go directly to the cemetery.
