Floyd D. Merritt Sr., 86, of Scranton, died Tuesday afternoon at the home of his son in Scranton.

He was born in Sayre, son of the late Frank and Viola Helen Ford Chickillo. Floyd was also preceded in death by his longtime companion, Audrey McAndrew. Floyd was educated in Towanda schools.

He was a member of the Assembly of God Church in Green Ridge. He served in the United States Army for six years and then went on to serve in the National Guard.

Before Floyd's retirement, he was employed by Burne Oldsmobile as an automobile technician.

He is survived by five sons, Randy, his caregiver, of Scranton; Sam, Clarks Summit; Gino, Scranton; Daryl, Scranton; and Dave, Nicholson; 30 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Floyd was also previously deceased by sons, Floyd Jr. and Melvin; and his siblings, Fred, Walter, Albert, Myron and Mary Ann.

The funeral with full military honors will be Saturday at 9:30 a.m. in the Morell-LaBelle Funeral Home, 301 Chestnut St., Dunmore. Interment, Dunmore Cemetery. Friends may call Friday from 4 to 6 p.m. at the funeral home.
