Francis “Fran” DeSando

Francis DeSando 87, of Dunmore died Thursday evening surrounded by his family at Reginal Hospital.
Born in Scranton son of the late Nicholas and Eleanor San Giuliano DeSando.
Francis was educated in Dunmore schools.
Francis was a skilled heavy equipment operator for 45 years and a member of the Operator Engineers Local 542 union.
He was a member of Saint Rocco's parish where he sang in the choir and volunteered his kitchen skills at the annual summer picnic and pasta dinners. He was also a member of the Eternal Friendship Club.
Francis was an avid Harley motorcycle rider where he was 'King of the Road'. He traveled through 48 states alongside some his best friends. He looked forward to his morning coffee gatherings with his friends and long chats at the Harley dealership. He also enjoyed hunting and hosting 'Hightower's Deer Fest' every February. During the summer months, Francis enjoyed spending time with friends and family at How Kola campground and winter months in Florida. His musical talents included singing and playing the accordion, guitar, mandolin and drums.
Francis is survived by son Francis Jr. and wife Lynne, Jefferson Township, son Anthony and wife Deborah, Old Forge, daughter Debora DeSarro and husband Ralph, Throop, son Nicholas and wife Amy, Dunmore, daughter Jamie and fiance Sergio, Jefferson Township and ex-wife, Loretta DeSando.
Grandchildren Kimberly and Paul Hnatko and Francis III DeSando, Anthony Jr. and Andrea DeSando, Nicholas Jr., Alec and Domenic DeSando. Great grandchildren Aurora and Ian Hnatko and Nicholas DeSando III.
He was preceded in death his wife Dorothy, brother Nicholas DeSando and infant great grandchildren Sweet Pea and Michael Hnatko.
The Funeral will be held on Thursday at 11:00 AM in St Anthony’s Church 208 Smith Street.
Viewings will be held Thursday from 8:30 AM until 10:30 AM in the Morell-LaBelle Funeral Home 301 Chestnut Street Dunmore.
