James J. "Sarge" Capoccia, 88 of Dunmore died Friday at Allied Hospice. He is survived by his wife, the former Shirley Nazar. The couple celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary November of 2025.
He was born on March 2, 1937 to the late John and Stella (Alichwer) Capoccia.
He was a 1954 graduate of Dunmore high school, afterwards serving in the United States Air Force stationed in Korea as a code breaker. He graduated from the Northeast Municipal Police Training Center and was employed by the Dunmore Police Department. He attained the rank of Sergeant by completing a 480-hour, 12-week municipal police training course where he received the highest scholastic award for having the top overall average among 41 officers in attendance from five different counties. He retired on December 31, 1992. He was also a member of the FOP and the American Legion post 945.

He will be especially missed by Roma G. Doodle, his breakfast and Second breakfast buddy. Jim was the perfect combination of soft spoken and sarcastic but he lived his life with love, intention and loyalty to his family who will always hold space for him in their hearts.
The funeral is private at the request of the family.
