Joseph Brian Hess

Joseph Brian Hess, 65, of Jefferson Twp., died Saturday at home. His wife of 41 years is the former Donna Sedock.

Born in Harrisonville, Mo., he was the son of Joseph H. Hess and Elaine McElhany Ahrlett. A graduate of the University of Kansas with a BS in electrical engineering, he was a member of Tau Beta Pi Honor Society. A United States Army sergeant, Brian served in Germany and was trained as a Russian linguist at the Defense Language Institute, where he met Donna. He retired after 22 years with Avon Products, most recently as a network architect.

Brian was an avid bird watcher and photographer, and enjoyed sharing his photography with other enthusiasts on eBird.org. He was a doting companion to his three cats, who determined that he had the best lap for sitting. Most of all he loved his family. A devoted husband, father and son, he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

In addition to his wife and parents, he is survived by a daughter, Katharine Hess; and a son, Joseph Michael Hess; sisters, Dr. Ellen Pratt and husband, Robert; Jennifer Hess and Laura Hess; a brother, Philip Andrew Hess and wife, Gayle; and four nieces and nephews, Domnick Perry, and Rebecca, William and Luke Pratt.

Friends and family may call Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Morell-LaBelle Funeral Home, 301 Chestnut St., Dunmore.

A memorial service will take place at a date to be announced.
