Obituary

Joseph Rusin

July 2, 2020

Joseph John Rusin Jr., 72, of Hamlin, passed away July 2, surrounded by family, after a heroic battle with his own heart.

Born on Sept. 23 to Margaret and Joseph Rusin Sr. in Dunmore, Joe graduated from Dunmore High School and joined the United States Navy where he proudly served aboard the USS America CV-66 during the Vietnam War. After circling the globe and returning home, Joe married the love of his life, Sandy, and started gardening and hunting anything that moved in Hamlin. He spent his life working as a machine technician at RCA/Thomson and partying by ponds, in basements, and at any open field they could find with their gang of close friends.

Joe is survived by his wife, Sandy, of 50 (often) cantankerous years, and two sons, Joseph with his wife, Kara (aka Texas), and Stephen with his wife, Kristy; as well as five amazing grandchildren, that he was very proud of, Faith, Luke, Lila, Nikolas and Khloe; brother-in-law, Henry and his wife, Cathy; and nieces, Michelle and Nicole.

He was preceded in death by his favorite dog, Pal; his parents and stepparents; and by his brother, Paul, who he missed very much.

Joe was a smart, strong man, a good provider to his family, and the hardest worker any of us have ever known. He will be sorely missed by everyone that knew him.

Funeral services will be held at All Saints Cemetery in Hollisterville on July 7 at 1 p.m. The family understands that some may be uncomfortable attending a funeral right now. Please simply keep us in your thoughts if you're not attending. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Hamlin Fire & Rescue or your local volunteer rescue organization.

Funeral arrangements provided by the Morell-LaBelle Funeral Home, Dunmore.
