Norma I.
Mecca
May 4, 2020
Norma Isabelle (Salamida) Mecca, 92, of Dunmore, died May, 4 from complications of Covid-19. She was the devoted wife of Vincent D. Mecca who died in 1965.
Born July 21, 1927, she was the daughter of John and Mayme (Rogato) Salamida.
She was a 1945 graduate of Dunmore High School and a life-long member of the Dunmore Presbyterian Church, where she served as a deacon and was a member of the choral and bell choirs. She was a clerk at Tobyhanna Army Depot, retiring in 1989.
Norma was an extraordinary woman of faith, strength and kindness. She was selfless, caring and thoughtful and never missed an occasion or opportunity to send a greeting card to anyone she knew.
She enjoyed attending Dunmore High School football games on Friday nights and she loved the camaraderie of her girlfriends every Saturday as she chauffeured them around for lunch and shopping. She also enjoyed crossword puzzles, watching ice skating on TV and making homemade manicotti.
Norma loved her family without measure. She is survived by her children, Linda Mecca Green and husband Dr. Donald H. Green of Pottstown, and Mark W. Mecca of Dunmore; seven grandchildren: Danya, Nathan, Eric, Shawna, Joel, Shayla and Jonathan; seven great-grandchildren: Kayla, Daren, Kyler, Mariah, Kaylen, Kaia and Henry; and many cousins, nieces and nephews whom she adored. She was predeceased by her parents; brother Martin; sister, Pauline; and her grandson Mark.
A graveside service will be held on Thursday, May 7 at noon in Dunmore Cemetery.
From Linda and Mark:
"We will always remember our mother's love and loyalty to her family and friends; her faith and love for God and her Church; her dignity, grace and resilience in adversity; and her kindness to all. She taught us what is really important in life - to love, support and care for family - and we believe it is her legacy. We are deeply blessed that she was our mother and will miss her for the rest of our days. It was a great privilege to be her children."
