Salvatore "Sam" Valenza, 93,  Dunmore, died Saturday morning at Marywood Heights.

He was the husband of the former Vilma Bruschelli, the couple celebrated 63 years of marriage.

Born in  Dunmore, he was the son of the late Cologero and Gaetana, Serrenti Valenza.

Sam was a member of St. Mary's of Mount Carmel Parish, and also a member of the Holy Name Society.

He was educated in Dunmore schools and afterwords joined the Army rising to the rank of Corporal. He served at HQ Battery Corps Artillery in Korea.

After the war, he returned to Dunmore, and was employed as a cutting machine operator at Seneca Sportswear in Scranton.

After his retirement, he was hired by Rev. James Flynn as a Sacristan for Saint Mary's Church in Dunmore.

He went on to work for the Church under Rev. John Doris for many years, always serving with the highest level of dignity and respect.

He is also survived by his wife Vilma, one son, Charles of Archbald, two daughters, Darlene Valenza, Dunmore, and Sally Ann Mills of Olyphant,

Grandchildren, Chad, Daniel, Liza, Chas, Isabella, Mia, great-grandchildren, Joshua, Francesca, Dominic, and one brother Charles of Peckville.

He was also preceded in death by three brothers, Pasquale, Charles, and Joseph, and one sister Sarah DeSando.

The Valenza Family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the staff of Marywood Heights for their care and compassion.

The funeral will be Thursday at 10:00 AM in St. Marys of Mount Carmel Church Dunmore.

Interment Dunmore Cemetery.

Friends and family are invited to call Wednesday evening at the Morell-LaBelle funeral home 301 Chestnut St. Dunmore from 5 PM to 7 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Sam's name to  Marywood Heights 2500 Adams Ave., Scranton.
