Obituary

Steward Beavers February 18, 2022 Steward Beavers, 96, passed away from this life on February 18. Born in Dunmore, he was the son of the late Christopher and Matilda Freeman Beavers. Stewart was a long time resident of Dunmore and attended Dunmore schools. He had been residing with his daughter, Barbara, and his son-in-law Michael Sofranko, in Coatesville. His wife, Susan Suray Beavers, died in 1991. Steward served with the 4th Infantry Division during WWll , serving in northern France, Rhineland, and taking part in the Normandy Invasion. In 2018, he was awarded the French metal of honor in a ceremony at the VA Medical Center, Coatsville. He was an active member of VFW post 5209 in Scranton, serving in many capacities including commander. Since moving to Coatesville, he became a member of VFW post 287. In addition to his daughter, Barbara and her husband, he was survived by his grandsons, David (Kerri), Joseph (Justine), James (Lindsay), four great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was proceeded in death by his eldest grandson, Michael, four brothers, James, Ernest, Kenneth and Clayton, three sisters Grace Wrzeszewski, Pearl Hineline and Madeline Powell. Visitation will be at the Morell LaBelle funeral home 301 Chestnut St. Dunmore on Sunday, February 27 between the hours of 4 and 6 PM. Burial With full Military Honors will take place at Fairview Memorial Park in Elmhurst on Monday at 11 AM. In lieu of flowers a donation may be made to the Disabled American Veterans or the Wounded Warrior Project.
