William R Gowden

William R. Gowden, 76 lifelong resident of Dunmore, died Wednesday evening at Hospice of the Sacred Heart Dunmore.

He was married to the former Virginia  (Ginny) Ruspi, the couple would have celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversary this  August.

Born in Dunmore to the late, William R & Mary Kearney Gowden .

Billy was a graduate of Dunmore High School and attended the University of Scranton and Penn State Worthington campus.

He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam war. After the war, he returned home and served as a Dunmore police officer for 20 years, retiring as a lieutenant. He later went on to work for the Pennsylvania State Attorney General's Office.

He is also survived by his two children, Sean and wife, Heidi of Moosic and daughter, Cara Barthold, and husband, Kyle of Clarks Green , two granddaughters, Giada and Evangeline, and several cousins.

A celebration of Billy's life will take place on Sunday from 5 to 7 PM in the Morell-LaBelle funeral home 301 Chestnut St. Dunmore
